Geoff Hurst's 6 goals against Sunderland
Its awful quality but bear with it it's slightly better in the second half. Bobby's free kick is a belter as well. Just squint, bit like a seeing eye picture, but its still historic and it was filmed at the Old London Stadium

The footage was filmed for the BBC 2 news that was broadcast around 7pm
They were allowed to show around 40 seconds of action each Saturday evening, usually a game in London so they could develop the film and run it back at Broadcasting House.
Fortunately the Beeb were at Upton Park that particular day and got practically all the goals apart from a header just before half time.

I was also there, in the North Bank with my brother.
The old Chicken Run had been demolished and the new East Stand was still being constructed. That side of the ground was completely empty apart from, it seems, one spectator with a standard 8 cine camera.
Not a bad side that day. The only weak links I think were Bobby Ferguson, John Charles and Alan Stephenson.
Bobby Ferguson
2 Billy Bonds
3 John Charles
4 Martin Peters
5 Alan Stephenson
6 Bobby Moore 1
7 Harry Redknapp
8 Ron Boyce
9 Trevor Brooking 1
10 Geoff Hurst 6
11 John Sissons

Only1 -- Couldn't agree with you more. Lets face it the 60's, 70's and 80's were great times for West Ham and football in general. For me Sky fucked it up with all their money.

My brother and I were there there on the north bank that afternoon. It's funny but I don't think anyone in the ground spotted Geoffs handball for the 1st, not even the Sunderland players. In fact it only became apparent after the game when he gave an interview.

I was there as an 8 year old. Remember getting home with my old man and driving my old dear bonkers all weekend by insisting she started calling me Geoff. Sunday morning i was out of the door of our gaff in Limehouse in full West Ham kit replaying the whole thing. Well almost,i didnt handle the ball.

I love and hate this kind of thread in equal measure. Love because they stir priceless memories for me but hate em as i'm reminded that the game i fell in love with has gone forever.

Its a bit out of focus and it doesn't really show the bit of skill for Brooking's goal the best of the day. Fantastic memories

It's slightly better quality on Sir Geoff's website, but is in B&W. I remember the game well. Their 'keeper and centre half didn't have a bad game, but we were awesome!

That was only the 3rd West Ham game I went to as a kid. I remember thinking maybe they were all going to be like that! Think I'm right in saying it's still the last time a player scored 6 in a top flight game in England. Thanks for posting the clip

The planet must've been considerably smaller in those days, as even gravity was slower.

Or has the realtime footage been lost, and that's the slow motion version?

Cheers, anyway!

I think that was the day I punched the air in celebration when I heard the news, and broke my family's precious three-bulb light fitting.
